What is resiliance?

Business resilience is an approach that attempts to prepare organizations for unforeseen disruptions. Whether facing natural disasters, supply chain disruptions, IT and utility outages, or even a worldwide health crisis, resilient businesses are able to create effective plans of action to survive and recover from emergencies with their infrastructure, customer base, and reputation intact. Building a comprehensive resilience plan gives your business and your people a playbook to follow when standard processes and procedures fail.

Resilience at work can be addressed to three different areas:

  • Relationship to self: being confident, optimistic, self-aware and patient
  • Relationship to others: being appreciative, helpful, accepting, collaborative and empathetic

Relationship to the environment: goal-oriented, growth mindset, purposeful, perseverant

Mentally and emotionally strong

Positive attitude

Embracing change

Maintain focus

Example of practical training for resiliance: Purpose Activity

Finding meaning in one’s environment is an important aspect of resilience. It is believed that people with a strong sense of purpose experience more resilience. Purpose in life fosters resilience in part by protecting the brain against the negative effects of stress.

Finding meaning in life’s experiences, especially when facing challenges, is a key mechanism of resilience. Here are some purposes reflection themes that can improve team resilience:

  1. Why are you?
  2. Why do you get up in the morning?
  3. What keeps you awake at night?
  4. When are you most alive?
  5. What does being successful mean to you?
  6. How might you apply your gifts to a pursuit that is of deep interest to you and helps others?
  7. What can you do to make a difference in one person’s life, today?
  8. What is your sentence (meaning, if you summarised your purpose in one 140-character sentence, what would it be)?
  9. If you say yes to living purposefully, what do you say no to?
  10. If you met an older version of yourself, what sage advice would they give you?

This way the team can get aknowledge about how the others feels and think, and how everyone can help the others in difficult or different situations not expected.
